Overview:

Venture is looking for a Director, Public Relations with significant health and CPG brand communications experience to plan, execute and oversee public relations efforts on behalf of our clients. We want someone with extensive experience planning and executing multi-channel public relations campaigns, particularly through events, digital communications and earned media. A clear thinker and communicator, the ideal candidate is driven, connected and has an entrepreneurial approach to problem solving.



Responsibilities include:

  • Creating industry leading multi-channel PR plans by adapting brand strategies and marketing and communications plans for large and small entrepreneurial companies and organizations, and by integrating PR and social into larger integrated campaigns

  • Leading a team of professionals who plan and execute PR campaigns

  • Writing and delivering clear, succinct PR plans/presentations for internal and external audiences

  • Working with client managers to provide ongoing PR and social leadership for our clients, including proposing new and immediate PR opportunities for our clients

  • Working with analysts to set goals, objectives and measurement plans for our PR campaigns, and to assess campaign performance

  • Adapting and building upon a cohesive framework for building PR success on behalf of Venture’s clients, while continually searching for and proposing ways to augment and enhance Venture’s service offering

  • Remaining current on PR, social and content innovations, to ensure our clients always stay ahead of their competition

Required skills and experience:

  • 10+ years of experience in building and activating brands, marketing, communications, and public relations roles, with a preference for a candidate with both client and agency-side experience

  • 5+ years experience leading teams consisting of direct reports, with a record of accomplishment building brands through PR, events, social media and earned media

  • Superior writing and verbal communications skills, with a high attention to detail

  • You come alive when presenting your ideas to colleagues, our clients and their partners

  • A collaborative and engaging demeanor, with a propensity to propose and share ideas and integrate feedback from agency colleagues and clients

  • A knack for success and multi-tasking in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment

  • An arts, business, marketing, or communications-related degree from an accredited University is preferred

  • Strong credibility and an extensive network in Canada’s media industry, including relationships with reporters/producers/editors, influencers, thought leaders, media providers and other potential partners

  • Fluency in French is considered an asset

Venture has offices in Calgary and Toronto. However, we will entertain qualified candidates seeking to work remotely from other locations.
