Getting Ready: Single Use Plastic Prohibition Regulations

Updated: May 15

In 2022 the Government of Canada published the Single Use Plastics Regulations to prohibit the manufacture, import and sale of certain single use plastics.

The regulations are in effect Dec. 2022 for Manufacture and Import. Prohibition of sale to consumers for most items is Dec. 2023.

A packaged good brand owner who sells directly to consumers could be impacted by the check out bag restrictions and could also impact product sampling initiatives.

The Government of Canada has a published a series of fact sheet and guidance documents to help industry comply and find alternatives.
